MSI Express Inc & Manufacturing Solutions is Hiring a Maintenance Operator Near Portage, IN

MSI Express is a single-source contract manufacturing and packaging company, delivering innovative engineering solutions from our strategically located network of manufacturing facilities.

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

The Maintenance Operator is responsible for execution of a variety of maintenance, development and operations tasks that promote efficiency of MSI Express Inc production lines. Duties and responsibilities include: Line operations. Line troubleshooting and maintenance. Line changeovers, including some sanitation. Line ERP data entry.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • The Maintenance Operator must understand all quality specifications associated with the ingredients, product, packaging, and machinery, and must operate all machinery and equipment in compliance with those standards.
    • Ability to work with packaging machinery in a food environment.
  • The Maintenance Operator is responsible for the operation of the machinery or equipment at centerlines and speeds sufficient to accomplish the production efficiency goals set by supervision.
    • Work with Engineering Manager, Maintenance Manager, and Production Manager to improve equipment reliability.
    • Understand Production targets for each project.
    • Work with all departments to improve output and reduce cost.
    • Develop and Implement ideas to generate operational and maintenance improvements.
  • The Maintenance Operator is expected to recognize when the equipment is malfunctioning or operating at substandard speeds, and to troubleshoot and make adjustments that return the equipment to expected productivity levels.
    • Mechanical power transmission: understand, installation, and repair.
    • Able to troubleshoot basic machine controls
  • The Maintenance Operator is responsible for ensuring that all ingredients, bulk, and packaging materials required for production match the specified part numbers, per the Finished Goods binder specifications.
    • Scan raw and packaging materials into ERP system and account for scrap/waste via data entry. 
  • The Maintenance Operator is required to perform preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance on the machinery or equipment to which they are assigned.
  • The Maintenance Operator is required to assist in the cleanup and/or the setup of the line by stocking, reworking, troubleshooting and any other duties that are required to keep the line functioning at the desired productivity levels.
    • Participation in changeovers and sanitation including but not limited to removal and assembly of machine parts on packaging line equipment.
  • Machining, Electrical, and Shop skills:
    • Able to drill, tap, and grind.
    • Understand basic electrical circuits. Ability to replace fuses and motors.
  • Follow all company policies including but not limited to Safety Behaviors and Good Manufacturing Practices.
    • Ensure workplace is clean, organized, and safe
    • Ensure machine tools and equipment are safe and properly operated.
    • Generate improvement ideas for machine safety.
    • Support operations and quality employee training to teach plant associates how to interface effectively with machinery.
    • Understand SOPs and provide improvement ideas and upgrades.
  • The Maintenance Operator has responsibility for Food Safety and Quality Adherence within their influence, including the responsibility for reporting Food Safety and Quality problems, in a timely manner, to MSI Express personnel who have the authority to initiate action on those problems.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by MSI Express leadership.

CAPABILITY PROFILE:

Minimum Qualifications/Skills/Working Conditions:

  • May be required to provide basic tools to perform repairs and maintenance.
  • Must be able to work overtime as needed -Essential
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, crouch, stoop, reach, stretch, step, climb and/or sit frequently or through the duration of the shift -Essential
  • Have appropriate eye, hand and foot coordination to properly execute position
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds -Essential
  • Ability to identify different written forms, box labels and bottle codes -Essential
  • Ability to operate computer equipment for the line operation -Essential
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials
  • Noise levels that may require the use of hearing protection
  • Must wear personal protective equipment as required within the facility in designated areas
  • Temperature and humidity swings
  • Oil and grease used on machine parts for lubrication
  • Frequent presence of moisture during the cleaning process of production area
  • Smells/Odors associated with the product and equipment maintenance, including chemicals used during cleaning process, as well as non-toxic glue
  • Dust associated with corrugate boxes
  • Dust and wood fiber associated with wooden pallets
  • Allergens related to any food products which may be in production
  • Must comply with OSHA regulations and/or MSDS standards
